The project will celebrate the people, heritage and culture of the London Borough of Sutton. Each entry must have a strong association with the borough, either through the production team studying or working within of near to the borough, or more directly through the film’s content, which should deal with Sutton subjects, inanimate or people focused. Genres can cover any family friendly area, from comedy to classic theatre, travelogues to dance, animation to interviews. Alternatively, the ANS organisers have thrown the gauntlet down to entrants, saying ‘use your imagination and surprise us!’
Projects can be filmed on any suitable equipment, such as smartphones, tablets and camcorders, as well as conventional movie cameras.
Organiser Richard Moore, a member of the Arts Network Sutton executive, explained: ‘The judges will be basing their assessments on a number of key criteria, including creativity and originality, strength of relevance to our borough and the production quality of the entries.
‘Our age categorisations (18 and under, 19 to 69 and 70-plus) are designed to give as many enthusiasts as possible equal chances of success. The free entry for young people and those still in full-time education is also designed to make the competition as accessible as possible for all.
‘Moreover, by restricting the subject matter to Sutton people and culture we are aiming to make the borough’s movie makers better informed about their borough and proud of its cultural heritage.’
Judging of the entries, which must be between one and 12 minutes in length and in a digital format, will take place in early October 2016 and the deadline for entries is 20 September 2016. The results will be announced at an Oscars-style Awards Evening to be held at the Secombe Theatre, Sutton on Sunday 23 October.
ANS has launched a new website which carries full and detailed information about the entry criteria. Visit: www.suttonthemovie.com or contact Richard at: firstname.lastname@example.org
