Arts Network Sutton has outlined its current plans for its arts exhibtions in 2017.
“Between March 14th and 26th, we held our Youth Art Exhibition at the Europa Gallery which was an enormous success. The quality of the work was as high as it’s ever been – if not higher – and the students and teachers at the 13 schools that took part deserve great praise for all their hard work,”said a spokesperson.
“We held a Preview on March 16th which was attended by over 150 people. Local artist Abel Kesteven gave a talk about his experiences as a professional artist and the Mayor of Sutton, Cllr Richard Clifton gave a short speech and along with Deputy Mayor Nali Patel, presented prizes and certificates to the winning pupils. The preview was also attended by Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton & Wallington and Lord Tope. As well as being able to admire all the wonderful art on display, visitors were served “mocktails” which proved to be so popular that the bar nearly ran out of stock!
“We will be holding an exhibition for various groups in the borough later in the year but we’ll be re-launching the exhibtion which was previously known as art As Therapy Exhibtion with a new and more inclusive name and approach. We think it’s time that this exhibition was reinvigorated – so look out for some exciting news as and when we have it.
“Currently, ANS is going through a phase of re-organisation with the aim being to improve the Network and make it more beneficial to all of our members many of who aren’t visual artists. Unfortunately, because of this and possible changes to the Europa Gallery, we aren’t able to hold the Open exhibition this year.
“We realise that the exhibition has become very popular and hope that in the future we can offer some form of open exhibition again. However if there’s someone out there who would like to take it on, we’d be more than happy to offer some help and advice.”
