Second year art and design students from Carshalton College have created a fantastic mural for the reception area at the SILC (Skills and Integrated Learning Centre) Training Centre in Mitcham.

Cyrielle Viny and Amie Songhurst took on the mural as part of their final major project on their UAL Extended Diploma in Art & Design. SILC specialise in construction courses for pre 16 students and contacted the College to ask if students would be interested in decorating their stairwell that leads to the workshop in their building.

Cyrielle and Amie visited the training centre to find out more about the project and the centre’s idea to design a vibrant piece of artwork that reflected the construction training offered and  to inspire visitors. They came up with a few ideas for the team at SILC to choose from.

The artwork took 24 days to produce and was created on MDF boards using acrylic paints. Once fitted by the stairwell it will then be sealed with varnish.

The Centre were thrilled with the final piece of artwork and the students received vouchers for their contribution.
Chaz Watson, Director/Instructor at SILC Training wrote the students letters to thank them personally
“I am writing to thank you so much for all the hard work you have put into producing such a unique mural for our stairwell at SILC.  I was very impressed and pleased with the finished result and I know it will look stunning.
I particularly want you to know that I appreciate all the effort and countless hours you have put in to your piece, even working during your half term break to get it finished!
I know this art work will symbolise the collaboration between two educational provisions from either end of the spectrum and I believe it will inspire many of our students for years to come.”

Both students are leaving the College in July, Cyrielle will be progressing to UAL London to their Camberwell campus to study Illustration and Amie is progressing to Croydon University to study Fine Art.
