The Co-op is looking for more than 4,000 local good causes to benefit from a share of an estimated £8m that will be generated through its membership scheme. The company said that 1 per cent from the sale of Co-op branded goods to its members would go to local causes and is asking charities and good causes to apply to receive a share of funds raised between May and September 2017. Co-op said it would appoint three causes for each of its approximately 1,500 food stores and funeral homes in the UK. It said preference would be given to organisations with annual incomes of less than £1m.
