Building work is officially underway on a programme by Sutton Council to construct the first new council houses in nearly 30 years.
The £28 million new build programme will see 93 new homes delivered across three sites – in Alcester Road, Wallington; Fellowes Road, Carshalton; and Richmond Green, Beddington.
The new build will offer a mix of one, two and three-bedroomed homes suitable for families, including ten that are wheelchair accessible. Over 90% will be affordable homes.
To mark the start of the construction stage, a turf-cutting ceremony was held last week at the site of the former Ludlow Lodge in Wallington, attended by councillors and senior staff from Sutton Council.
