Fantastic range of events lined up at theatre

From family favourite novels brought to live on stage to a hand full of live music entertainment and a few big names visiting Richmond for one night only, November’s special events are guaranteed to delight audiences!

The month’s host of entertainment gets off to a thrilling start as family favourite David Walliam’s presents his latest children’s novel to be brought on stage with the ever popular Awful Auntie on Thu 2 – Sun 5 Nov. It follows the Birmingham Stage Company’s record-breaking tour of Walliams’ Gangsta Granny.  Awful Auntie tells the story of Stella played by Georgina Leonidas (best known as Katie Bell in the Harry Potter film series), who, when setting off to visit London with her parents, has no idea her life was in danger. Waking up from a coma three months later, only her Aunt Alberta (RSC veteran Timothy Speyer) can tell Stella what has happened. But not everything Aunt Alberta tells her turns out to be true and Stella quickly discovers she’s in for the fight of her life against her very own awful Auntie. David Walliams’ amazing tale of frights, fights and friendship features a very old car, a very large owl and a very small ghost.

Gok Wan brings his newest show Naked & Baring All to Richmond’s stage to leave no collar unturned in what might be the most honest, campest and naked stage show ever to mince the boards. The First Lady of Musical Theatre Elaine Paige follows soon after in an intimate, informal concert of epic proportion. Then, Ed Byrne asks the following in his newest show, Spoiler Alert: is life that bad or have we good reason to complain about it? Are we filled with righteous anger at a world gone wrong or are we all just a bunch of whiny little brats? In short, are we spoiled? Come and watch as Byrne takes this question, turns it upside down and shakes it until the funny falls out.

Combining education with entertainment, Richmond Theatre is proud to host The Shakespeare Schools Festival, the world’s largest youth drama festival which sees students from primary, secondary and special schools unite on stage for the celebratory finale of a six month journey. Then, join Saba Douglas-Hamilton, the highly acclaimed elephant conservationist and wildlife TV presenter of This Wild Life and Big Cat Diaries, for an evening of exciting animal stories and intimate behind the scenes tales of life in Kenya with her young family.
