Carshalton House

 Honeywood Museum
Honeywood Walk, Carshalton SM5 3NX

Chalk and flint house dating to 17C with many later additions including major extensions of 1896 and 1903 when owned by John Pattinson Kirk, a London merchant. Rich in period detail and the interior recently restored and back stairs opened up with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Now the London Borough of Sutton’s museum.

Treat yourself to an Edwardian High Tea at Honeywood’s tea rooms.

Throughout the weekend there will be children’s “Make an Edwardian High Tea” papercraft. Plus Honeywood Window Trail for children.

Nonsuch Gallery and Service Wing at Nonsuch Mansion

Georgian mansion, designed in Tudor Gothic style, later used at Windsor Castle. Built for wealthy merchant Samuel Farmer. Restored Service Wing includes dairy, kitchen, scullery, larders and laundries, loose-box. Gallery has timeline and first ever model of Henry VIII’s Nonsuch Palace, scale drawings, archaeological dig artifacts, and restoration of Georgian mansion stained glass. Jeffrey Wyatt 1806.

Russettings
25 Worcester Road, Sutton SM2 6PR

Russettings is a late Victorian House built in 1899. Designed by Frederick Wheeler whose other surviving buildings include St Paul’s Cathedral. Many original features can be seen such as the kitchen range, fumidors, panelled ceilings and attractive cornice friezes.

Since 1965 the building has been home to the register office for births, deaths and marriages.

St Mary’s Church
Church Rd, Wallington SM6 7NJ

A church on this site was recorded as far back as the time of the Doomsday survey. The current Grade II* listed building dates from the 14th century, with extensive restoration and additions undertaken during the Victorian period. The church contains fine Arts and Crafts decoration including an organ screen by William Morris & Co. The Carew Chapel contains tombs and memorials to the Carew family dating from 1520 onwards. The Chancel has 15th century misericord choir stalls and 15th century brasses in the Chancel floor.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available.

Carew Manor Dovecote
Beddington Park, Church Rd, SM6 7NN

Sunday 18th 11am-3pm

The octagonal brick dovecote was rebuilt by the First Baronet, Sir Nicholas Carew between 1707 and 1720 is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. It originally contained about 1360 nesting boxes built into the inner face of the wall. In the centre is the potence, the rotating ladder used to raid the nesting boxes.

Sutton Police Station

A Grade II listed building built in 1908, this is an unusually elaborate example of a Metropolitan Police station built in a suburban area where a more domestic composition could be adopted. A modern extension was added in 2003. Attractions will include police horses and police dogs, traffic police car and bike, vintage police vehicles, tours to the cells and CCTV control room as well as public information stands.
