Fantastic Spirit of Wallington Awards are announced

Wallington celebrated the best of its community spirit in this years  Spirit of Wallington Awards.

Individuals and businesses were recognised for their participating in ensuring Wallington remains a strong, vibrant and welcoming community.

The winners of the Wallington Facebook Group’s Spirit of Wallington Awards were announced at a special ceremony recently at the Wallington Arms.

The Awards were an idea from Bradley Morcombe and Andrew Langley, both members of the Wallington Facebook Group, who wanted to recognise the wonderful local people and businesses who contribute to the community.

The categories are, for businesses: Service with a Smile; Best Newcomer; Spirit of Wallington and for individuals: Unsung Hero; Best Neighbour; Spirit of Wallington.

There is also an award for the most Memorable Facebook Post.

Members of the Wallington Facebook Group were invited to nominate candidates for each category and an Admin Select Committee pulled out the winners and runners up. All the nominees have been notified and invited to the special presentation ceremony kindly hosted by the Wallington Arms with the Awards being presented by the Mayor of Sutton, Councillor Richard Clifton.
This is the second year of the Spirit of Wallington Awards. Winners from last year included Wallington Animal Rescue for Service with a Smile, and Beverley Brook for Best Neighbour. Previous winners noted that what made the awards extra special was the fact that they had been nominated by local people and customers.

The Wallington Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/wallingtonsurrey/was started by local Wallington resident Ric Adams, as a celebration of the history of Wallington. It soon became very popular as a community chat site. To keep the group pleasant and inclusive Ric appointed a volunteer admin team to prevent abuse of the site or bullying behaviour and as a result its popularity has soared to a membership of over 8,800.
