Sainsbury’s superstore to help with Fairtrade fortnight

schoolSainsbury’s new superstore in Sutton are joining together with Sutton Fairtrade community group on Saturday 4 March to encourage shoppers to take a “Fairtrade Break”

Fairtrade products such as chocolate and bananas will be available for shoppers to sample as a reminder of the parts of the world where much of our food and drink comes from. This year Fairtrade fortnight (27.2.2017 – 12.2.2017) will highlight how farmers and their families are caught in a poverty trap. For example 1 in 4 children in Kenya’s coffee and tea growing regions are malnourished, leading to stunted growth.

Sutton has been a Fairtrade Borough since 1.3.2007 and its status was most recently renewed in October 2015. Stores like Sainsbury’s and the Co-op actively contribute to the work of the Fairtrade community group in making a range of Fairtrade products available so that through shopping locally, Sutton residents can make a difference globally.

Come along to find out more and sample some free goods at Sutton Sainsbury’s 10 – 4 on Saturday 4 March
