Spirit of Wallington award winners announced

Woodcote Flying Club owners Teresa and Steve Green and their Admin Select Award

The Wallington Arms pub was bursting at the seams on Monday 4th December 2017 as the Wallington Facebook community gathered to recognise its unsung heroes.

Nominated by members of the Facebook group, the winners of the Spirit of Wallington Awards were revealed by Ric Adams in between live music from Chloe Ray and her band, with special performances from locals including Amelia Langley, Doug Shaw and Abigail Adams. Even the Sutton Mayor, there to present the awards, was persuaded to sing before the evening was out.

The winners all received an engraved award, with the many runners up each receiving chocolates and a certificate specially designed by local graphic designer Stacie Fiddimore, all sponsored by Millwood Servicing Ltd.

And as well as recognising great community spirit the crowd showed their own generosity by raising £226 pounds for the Mayor’s charities buying raffles tickets for an array of prizes kindly donated by local businesses.

The final roll call of honour was as follows:

Service with a Smile: Wallington Cycles

Sprit of Wallington: Community Award: Wallington Animal Rescue

Spirit of Wallington: Business: Karen Savage – Be Epic

Spirit of Wallington: Individual: Jacqueline Stainer

Favourite Facebook Post: Person arranging donations to renovate an elderly man’s flat so he could leave hospital

Admin Select Award: The Woodcote Flying Club

Millwood Services Award: Arif Hasan (Chef RF)

Special Award for their contribution to the community: Andy & Thea Brook of The Brook

Matthew Wood of Millwood Servicing Ltd finished up the evening with a presentation on how his nomination for an award the previous year had inspired him to sponsor this year’s awards
