A Michael Debrah goal shortly before half time gave the reserves a point in a 1-1 draw against Tooting Bec , writes Gary Brigden

The hosts opened strongly, and put us on the back foot from the off, but our defence was in good form, and any time they were pierced, Cosmos Cupid between the sticks was in good form.

It was a end to end half which was dominated by the midfield, with Roy Gayle, Mason Seagroatt and Karim Williams being involved in a early physical battle. This pretty much set out the way the game was going to pan out.

Tooting took the lead midway through the half, when Cupid made a save, but saw the rebound smashed home.

We were causing problems for the Tooting back line, especially down the wings, where the tenacity and energy of Reece Payton and the speed of Sam Calliaux were keeping the home back line on their toes. However we were struggling to get any meaningful shots on goal.

Shortly before the break through and Payton broke through and laced a shot goalwards, where Michael Debrah tapped home from close range.

Three minutes before the break and we were forced into a change, with Calliaux coming off, to be replaced by Joses Meneses.

The second half we came out flying and dominated in the early stages with Finlay Carney and Debrah unlucky not to convert decent chances.

We made a double change with George Baker and Charlie Reed replacing Carney and Debrah.

It was end to end football now, with both side pressing for a winning goal. Plenty of free kicks given in the middle from the battles from the midfielders.

Reed came close with a looping header and also went close when running onto a through ball but was just met by Tooting’s keeper.

Tooting turned up the heat in the final 20 minutes and Cupid was tested over and over again but produced save after save and the frustration was obvious for our opponents.

Full time came and we had picked up an exellent point.
