Sutton Common Rovers first team progress in Cherry Red Records Cup

Sutton Common Rovers first team moved into the 3rd Round of the Cherry Red Records Premier Challenge Cup, thanks to a 2-1 win over Bedfont Sports, writes Gary Brigden

The first 20 minutes saw us play some of our best football of the season, and we were restricted to just a George Murphy goal, thanks to some tremendous keeping by Bedfont Sports Terry Buss.

The visitors levelled midway through the half through Matt Baxter and had the better of the half from then.

The second half was fairly dour, played in driving rain, with little to warm (although it was more wet than cold), those in attendance, although Ollie Ellaway had to make a couple of sharp saves

Full time saw us introduce U17 striker Finlay Carney into the fray for his debut, and with a couple of minutes played in the second period of extra time, he found another substitute, Michael Campbell who fired home at the second attempt.

The match finished with us recording a 2-1 win.
