Sutton youth team claim three points

A goal in the closing moments gave Sutton youth team  all three points at Tooting as they returned from an extended Christmas break.

The first half lacked quality from either side as both teams seemed to struggle on a boggy pitch that cut up quickly, the only chances coming from long range as Kieran Rhule twice forced the home keeper into action whilst the home side failed to find the target with their efforts.

The team came close early in the second half though when Crossley Lema’s determined run and through ball allowed Rommel Hunte-Christie to fire at goal but he was denied by the keeper. Hady Ghandour then came close at the other end but was thwarted by a good stop from Sandile Wydler-Manzi, then Ayran Kugathas flicked Jean-Luc Kinsaba’s cross wide.

Rommel-Christie and Tom Mallett both headed Jamie Blanco corners wide of goal, whilst Luke Spillane-Davis came within inches of scoring with his first touch as his low drive whistled past the far post. With the game drawing to a close, Tooting should have scored as a corner fizzed across the six yard box but the shot at goal from the back post crashed off the bar, but with a minute to go, Kinsaba touched a free-kick short to Darnell Austin and his cross to the back post was met by Spillane-Davis rising highest to head home.
