Sutton’s University of Third Age celebrate 30th anniversary

SUTTON U3A celebrated its 30th Anniversary with a tea at St John’s Community Hall, Belmont, in July.  Guests included Ruth Dombey, Leader of Sutton Council, representatives from the Third Age Trust, and 60 members for an enjoyable afternoon.

The University of the Third Age (U3A) movement, of which Sutton U3A is a part, is a unique and exciting organisation which provides, through its U3As, life-enhancing and life-changing opportunities. Retired and semi-retired people come together and learn together, not for qualifications but for their own reward: the sheer joy of discovery!

Members share their skills and life experiences: the learners teach and the teachers learn, and there is no distinction between them.  Sutton U3A fulfils a valuable role in the Sutton Community in bringing people together who may otherwise have felt isolated and has 351 members and 35 groups, as well as a Sunday lunch group. If you are retired, or semi-retired, why not join Sutton U3A and be part of the experience for the next 30 years!

The organisation is at the Carshalton Environmental Fair on Bank Holiday Monday and hold new member meetings every two months.  Further details can be obtained from Mavis, Membership Secretary on 020 8661 2556, or Anna, Publicity Officer on 020 8395 9917.
