SCR reserves beaten but team coming together well for season

Despite a George Baker goal, the Sutton Common Rovers reserves went down to a 4-1 defeat against a strong Old Ruts 1st XI on Saturday, writes Gary Brigden.

We should not be too downhearted though, Old Ruts have beaten several Surrey Elite 1st XI’s in pre-season, so were always going to provide stiff opposition for our youngsters.

Liam is putting together a good squad ahead of the new season, and these lads will be very competitive this time out.

The 1st XI secured a convincing 4 – 1 victory over SCR Reserves with a deft first half lob from Zac Graham providing the Ruts a well deserved interval lead. Keeper Adam Seymour fired a long range free-kick from his own half after the break and the keeper could only parry the ball before it went in. The hosts then reduced the arrears briefly, before Jimmy Graham converted from the spot and Zac Graham fired home a late free-kick for his brace to wrap things up.
