Sutton’s commemorative events marking the centenary of the 1914-18 war continue at All Saints Church by Carshalton Ponds, on Saturday 21st November at 7.00pm, when the Carshalton Choral Society premieres a new work – A Great War Oratorio, featuring words and music by Sutton composer Christopher Wood.
The choir will be joined by local soprano Margaret Cooper and an orchestra of young players from Sutton Music Service and elsewhere.
Supported with a grant from the Borough’s WWI Commemoration Steering Group, this engaging and imaginative account of the ‘War to End All Wars’ comprises six pieces for choir and orchestra, interspersed with text adapted by Dick Bower and readings of much-loved poetry and prose of the period selected by Will Harris.
Tickets for A Great War Oratorio at All Saints Church, High Street, Carshalton, Surrey SM5 3EE are priced at £5 and can be pre-booked online from ORATORIO or on the door (cash only). Refreshments will be available.
