Chance to work with professional poet in Great War workshop

A fantastic opportunity to be involved in a unique Great War poetry workshop is being staged for Sutton residents.

On Thursday 13th November 7.30-9.30pm at Honeywood Museum it will beled by professional poet Stephen Smith with additional guidance from members of Sutton Writers Circle and using the artefacts in Honeywood Museum’s War to End All Wars exhibition as inspiration, this practical workshop will concentrate on creative methodologies, exploring perspective, form and figurative language, and will lead participants to the preliminary drafting of a poem.

Stephen Smith has worked as a University Lecturer, a Writer in Residence, a Creative Writing Tutor in Adult Education and as a lecturer in literature, history and philosophy for the WEA. His critically acclaimed collection, The Fabulous Relatives, published by Bloodaxe Books, won a major Eric Gregory Award.

Sutton Nature highlight wide range of events this December

Sutton Nature has pubished a list of events that it is promoting for the run up to Christmas.

Sutton Nature is the home of Sutton Nature Conservation Volunteers (SNCV), who are the main nature conservation organisation operating within Sutton and has been working to conserve and maintain Sutton’s many wildlife sites since 1987.

Its main aims are the conservation and improvement of sites of wildlife value in the borough. They carry out practical maintenance and habitat management work throughout the year. These tasks include hedgelaying, coppicing, scrub clearance and fence construction. During the spring and summer, it also carries out ecological surveys and monitoring, recording plants and animals to help inform our management.

Events in December include:

Friends of Sutton Ecology Centre Christmas Fair – Saturday 5 December 1pm-5pm. Sutton Ecology Centre. (In conjunction with Carshalton Frost Fair) The Friends of Sutton Ecology Centre will be holding their annual Christmas Fair, with hand-crafted gifts, hot drinks and a collection of delicious homemade soups & cakes. Suitable for: everyone.

Winter Wonderland Trail 1pm-4pm
Explore the delights of the award winning Ecology Centre with their Winter Wonderland Trail.
Cost: £1 per person for the Winter Wonderland Trail. Suitable for: families No booking required, just pop along.

Winter Wreath Making – Saturday 12 December 10am-12noon & 1pm-3pm Sutton Ecology Centre. Come and enjoy a relaxing time collecting materials to make your own all-natural winter wreath to take home. Your door will be the talk of the town! Includes a mince pie and hot drink. Cost: £7 per adult. Booking essential.
