Local musical talent rocked Wallington at its second free music festival on 25th June.

In the afternoon the live music centred on the bandstand in the Wallington Library Gardens, with proceedings opened by the Mayor of Sutton, Cllr Richard Clifton and St Elphege’s Choir.
Then from early evening a number of local venues opened their doors for free as they hosted more musical acts until late.

The festival is organised by the community, for the community with funding support from Arts Network Sutton and the Gary Mason Charity , and with sponsorship from local businesses Carpenter & Co. Solicitors, The Duke’s Head, the Woodcote Flying Club and Kamsons Pharmacy.

Andy and Thea Brook of The Brook were largely responsible for booking the wide range of musical talent and said, ‘This is a fantastic opportunity for local talent to showcase their skills and the acts all said how much they enjoyed being a part of this event. Some of the acts are about to release tracks so we may be seeing them on a bigger stage in the near future.’

One local act who has already made the breakthrough is Wayne Woodward, after coming second on the ITV show Britain’s Got Talent. However his new found fame did not stop him singing for guests at Sizzle n Shake as part of the Wallington Music Festival.

In total 34 acts were featured included Mr Grimez a rap artist, Firehorse, Chloe Ray, Papa Ratsy, Lola Young, Charlie Ardley and Dan Davidson.

Christine Lindsay of the Gary Mason charity said, ‘The Music Festival took place at the same time as Glastonbury, and it was wonderful to be able to experience here in Wallington some of the same community atmosphere that live music brings.’
