Sutton United youth team bounced back from their FA Youth Cup disappointment with a 3-1 win tonight at Guildford City in the 2nd Round of the Surrey Under-18s Midweek Floodlit Cup.

Rommel Hunte-Christie had the opening chance of the game latching onto Josh Danquah’s low cross but fired over, before Harry Walker met Darnell Austin’s corner at the back post but saw his effort cleared off the line. With 24 minutes gone though, Sutton took the lead when a quick corner routine made its way out to Andrius Lucauskas and his chip into the area found Crossley Lema unmarked, and he gave the keeper no chance firing into the roof of the net from ten yards out.

Just a couple of minutes later, Sutton doubled the lead when Hunte-Christie capitalised on a loose pass and found himself in space on the right, and his deep cross found Jean-LucKinsaba rising highest to head home. The home side then pulled a goal back as Liam Shorter raced through after a slip in the Sutton defence before chipping debutant keeper Max Endersby from the edge of the area.

Guildford had the first chance of the second half but a free header went wide, but much of the play was at the other end. Lucauskas twice saw efforts from outside the area saved, and Danquah’s low cross went agonisingly wide with no Sutton player on hand to touch home, but the third goal came in the 65th minute when Danquah picked the ball up on half-way and cut inside before threading through to Lucauskas who touched past the keeper from close range. Hunte-Christie then saw an effort clip the outside of the far post whilst Ayran Kugathas and Lema both saw efforts fly over the bar as Sutton saw the game out.
