team-photoGalaxy Hot Chocolate Fund gives out £300 per week to community projects. Sutton Community Farm is applying for assistance to fund their weekly lunches for volunteers each Wednesday.
“We feed up to 35 people each week, all of whom are dedicated volunteers, some of whom are suffering from social isolation, mental health issues and mild learning disabilities. It’s an important part of the experience of participation at the farm and gives people a chance to sit down together, eat and make friends. For some it’s one of the only times that they eat communally and get a healthy veg-based meal,” said a spokesperson.

Sutton Community Farm is a community-owned farm, started in response to a local need, with the purpose to increase access to fresh, healthy food and provide a shared space for people to cultivate skills, get exercise and make friends. As well as growing lots of veggies for local households, we provide a warm, welcoming environment for the community to learn new skills, meet people and be inspired. Many of our volunteers are coming for social and therapeutic horticulture sessions, to increase their healthy and wellbeing. We also work with schools, apprentices and community services. On average, we have 65 volunteers each week, and have had over 3,000 volunteers since we started our farm in 2010.
