27704301563_917f484e47_zBranch out, make roots in your local community and help the environment – join the Friends of Cheam Park on Saturday 26 November from 10am at Cheam Park Cafe as they plant new trees on Cheam Park.

The Friends group has planted over 200 trees on the park over the last several years to keep it green and beautiful for visitors to enjoy. More trees will help to make the area more wildlife friendly, and reduce the amount of water run-off.

Cllr Mary Burstow, Cheam ward councillor, said:

“I’m really pleased to be involved in this tree-planting event where we will take the opportunity to make a difference in Cheam Park. It‘s a chance for the whole community to come together and help keep this wonderful green space amazing for visitors and residents alike.”

In preparation for this event the Friends of Cheam Park have 40 five year-old trees and over 100 saplings to be planted on the day. The saplings will only need to be dug in with a trowel – perfect for younger children to get involved!

Cllr Holly Ramsey, Cheam ward councillor, said:

“I want to encourage everyone who can make it to come along to this event – it’s a great idea. I’m really proud that the residents of our area care so much about keeping it green and beautiful.”

Anyone who wishes to attend should consider wearing sturdy footwear, waterproof clothing and a spade if at all possible – you can never have too many! The group will meet near the Cafe at 10am, and the tree-planting session is scheduled to run until 1pm. You can find more details on the Friends of Cheam Park website by clicking here.
