NHS Sutton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has launched a new digital tool to help local people to understand where they should go for treatment, especially when they need healthcare in a hurry or late at night or at the weekend.

Health Help Now is an app and website which will help people check their symptoms and find advice, and also recommends the best place for treatment – showing which nearby services are open.  Importantly, it will help people get the right advice on the right services helping to reduce unnecessary trips to A&E.

You can access the site online at www.healthhelpnow-nhs.net or download it from the App Store or Google Play.

New affordable wheelchair that allows users to seee eye to eye needs £600k

chairParalympian Phil Eaglesham has invented a revolutionary new affordable wheelchair that lets users see eye to eye, with backing from the family of Dragons’ Den’s Deborah Meaden.

Corporal Eaglesham helped to create the new style of mobility device after catching Q Fever while serving in Afghanistan and having to use a wheelchair himself.

He found that existing designs were impractical, unwieldy, too low down and incompatible with modern living and so he determined to create a revolutionary new wheelchair that could help users live their lives more fully and to feel ‘abled, not disabled’.

The new ‘Victor’ wheelchair prototype was unveiled at a special launch at the Imperial War Museum (IWM) in London, a launch attended by serving and ex-servicemen and women, wheelchair users and opened by celebrity presenter of the Paralympics JJ Chalmers.

Christmas Card winner illuminates Wallington

unnamed-2The winner of Tom Brake MP’s annual Christmas Card design competition helped kick off the festive season in Wallington, by illuminating the Old Town Hall with a string of seasonal Christmas lights.

Rory Fallon, from Harris Junior Academy in Carshalton, with his geometric robin design, was the overall winner in Tom’s annual competition to design a Christmas card to be sent to over 1000 residents, local charities and businesses.

As part of his prize, Rory was given the opportunity to press the button on the annual Christmas lights switch-on ceremony in Wallington, marking the start of the festive season. The event was held on Friday evening outside the Old Town Hall, and featured Santa’s Grotto, food stalls and carolling.

Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington, said:

“I always look forward to the annual Christmas lights ceremony in Wallington, and this year’s maintained the high standard of previous events. From the delicious food cooked by The Woodcote Flying Club to a fantastic Santa’s Grotto funded by the local Rotary Club, this was a brilliant event for local families to mark the start of the run up to Christmas.

“With the evenings getting ever darker and colder, these festive lights in Wallington will put a smile on local residents’ faces. I also want to congratulate Rory on winning my design competition with his cheery robin, and on being the chosen one to switch on the lights!”
