Democracy was in action as pupils at Eagle House school in Sutton voted in their very own school elections.

The school in Brighton Road ran a democracy week in the run up to the elections, with lessons focussing on teaching the children about the value of voting. Candidates campaigned by putting up manifesto posters and delivering ‘soapbox’ speeches.

Cllr Wendy Mathys, chair of Sutton’s Council’s children, family and education committee, visited the school to talk to pupils and tell them more about her role as a local councillor.

Eagle House School is an independent specialist autism school for pupils aged 11 to 19.
