Two charities are celebrating after each being awarded more than £21,000 thanks to the Mayor of Sutton’s annual charity appeal.

Last year’s mayor, Cllr Jean Crossby, chose Sutton Carers Centre and Sutton Women’s Centre as her charities of the year.

During the year a host of fundraising events were organised raising a total of £42,709.78 for the causes.

Representatives of the two charities were each presented with a cheque for £21,354.89 at an event held recently by Cllr Crossby and Cllr Heron, the former deputy mayor, at the Civic Offices.

This year’s mayor, Cllr Steve Cook, is raising money for St Helier Kidney Fund and Home Start Sutton.
