Age UK Sutton to host fourth annual Digital Tea Party

Age UK Sutton is hosting its annual Digital Tea Party on Tuesday 12 September from 10.00am to 1.00pm at St.Bede’s Conference Centre in North Cheam. Now in its fourth year, the event is a popular fixture in the charity’s calendar, and gives Sutton’s older people the chance to learn and improve their digital skills in a fun and friendly setting.

Guests at the Digital Tea Party can take part in guided workshops such as ‘Introduction to Technology’, and ‘Staying Safe Online’. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist guests with using digital devices and to answer questions.

A range of digital devices including tablets and laptops will be available for people to use, although guests are encouraged to bring their own device if they have one. There will also be the opportunity to take part in 1:1 taster sessions, as well as plenty of refreshments to sustain avid learners.

Nicola Upton, CEO of Age UK Sutton said: “Getting online can make a huge difference to people’s wellbeing and we are delighted to give Sutton’s older people the chance to experience the benefits digital world has to offer for themselves.

I encourage people to come along to our Digital Tea Party to understand how digital technology can change their lives for the better. Even if you aren’t sure if it can make a difference, come along anyway – it’s an entertaining event, and there’s always tea and cake.

Our thanks to our volunteers, delivery partners and kind donors, without whose support we would not be able to keep events like this affordable, and a majority of our services free.”

The charity is not only encouraging people to come to the event, but is also calling for volunteers who might be interested in helping at the Digital Tea Party.

“You don’t have to be a tech-guru to volunteer,” said Holly Lewis, Involvement Manager. “If you are proficient at using a tablet, laptop or smartphone and have a few hours to spare on 12 September, please consider volunteering.”

Tickets for the Digital TeaParty can be reserved online or at the Age UK Sutton office, located by the Sutton Civic Office in central Sutton. For more information about the event and volunteering call 020 8770 4090 or email [email protected]
