Carshalton College forms student robotics team

carshalton-college-1Carshalton College has formed a Student Robotics Team 2016 to enter the prestigious UK Student Robotics competition and earlier this month they travelled to Southampton University for their first event the kickstarter where they were introduced to the kit they have to work with.

The competition challenges teams of 16 to 18 year-olds to design, build and develop autonomous robots to compete in their annual competition.

After announcing the competition, teams are given six months to engineer their creations, mentored throughout this time and supplied with kit to provide a framework they can build their robot around.

Nine students make up the 2016 Carshalton College Student Robotics Team and include Ben Charlton, Adresh Christian, Hameem Lala, Behzad Khan, Woleola Okunola, Sergejus Patasovas, Clement Petit, Usmaan Sultan and Alex Wood. The team is led by Mark Gatehouse, Tutor for Games Design and Interactive Media and Team Leader in Computing and Engineering at the College.

Provisionally, the team will meet to practice and develop their robot on Wednesday afternoons.
