Check before you travel campaign launched before new train timetable comes into action

Following phenomenal growth on the Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) routes, resulting in passenger numbers doubling in just 12 years on parts of the network, Carshalton and Wallington Tom Brake MP is supporting the ‘Check Before you Travel’ campaign launched by Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR).

This is raising awareness of the new timetable coming into action in May 2018.

As part of the campaign, GTR are asking passengers to check before they travel from 20 May.

These timetables are completely new and therefore it is likely that the majority of passengers who use these services to get to work, school, or anywhere else may be affected as their usual journey time or pattern is likely to change.  It is part of the biggest train timetable change in decades and is necessary to help increase capacity and improve reliability on the busiest part of the UK rail network.

Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake said

“The new timetable is exciting news for all users of train services here in Carshalton and Wallington. This will hopefully provide a more reliable service, more capacity and improve the experience for commuters in particular.

“I welcome the campaign for passengers to ‘check before you travel’ as it will take time for passengers to adapt to the new timetable. There will be increased trains on both Southern and Thameslink routes which will improve the connectivity of our area and make it easier to travel into Central London.

“These changes are desperately needed and will not come soon enough for residents who have had to put up with overcrowded, unreliable and shambolic services for far too long.”
