​Carshalton Tom Brake joined over 400 people in a range of sporting activities last Monday in order to raise awareness of sports and physical activities for people who suffer from disabilities. From cycling to boccia to football, there really was something for everyone.

The annual festival, which has been running since 2011, was a coming together of key players in the community, such as Orchard Hill College and Academy Trust, Carshalton College, Kingston College and the Revolution Foundation, to name a few. Alongside the sporting activities, there was drumming with the Gary Mason Charity and also music provided by Radio Jackie, ensuring there was plenty of entertainment for all.

Sport lover Tom said about the event:

‘We must thank the David Weir Leisure Centre for hosting such a fantastic day. Behind the fun, was a serious message about encouraging those with physical and learning difficulties to take on a sport. It is appropriate that the festival was hosted at the David Weir Leisure Centre, as the centre’s namesake should act as inspiration for what people with disabilities can achieve with the right motivation and support. I hope the relationships built today between schools, colleges and local providers, will enable greater cooperation and partnership; thereby raising awareness of the sporting opportunities that are accessible to all.’
