Man who has been causing “alarm and distress” is banned for five years

A man who has been causing alarm and distress to residents of the Roundshaw Estate, shoppers in Wallington High Street, and users of Sutton Rail station has been banned from entering any of the areas for the next five years and from associating with a group of individuals who police believe are a considerable factor in his negative behaviour.

Police had been receiving complaints on an almost daily basis about a male who had been drinking excessively in public and begging agressively, causing alarm and concern to the community.

On 18 August, at Surrey Magistrates Court, police obtained a Criminal Behaviour Order for Sidney Cranfield, 31 yrs (30.11.85) from the Tooting area.

The CBO started 18.08.17 and ends 17.08.22 and prevents Cranfield from

i.)  Entering the Roundshaw Estate, Wallington High Street or Sutton Quadrant/BR

ii.)  Approaching persons unknown to ask for money or alms anywhere in the United Kingdom

iii.) Being in a state of drunkenness in any public place in England and Wales

iv.) Having an open alcohol vessel in any public place in England and Wales.

v.) Associating in any way in a public place or a place to which the public has access with 5 named individuals.

If Cranfield is caught breaching any of these conditions he will be arrested.

PC  Dudas of the Beddington South Safer Neighbourhood Team said:

“The Beddington South and Wallington South Safer Neighbourhood Teams had been receiving multiple complaints about Cranfield, who was persistently causing concern and alarm at multiple locations in the borough.

We were able to clearly evidence Cranfield’s negative impact on a specific number of locations across Sutton and that there were a group of people who are regularly present when he was doing so.

I am pleased the courts supported our application to impose conditions on Cranfield, some of which are not criminal, but that will make a huge diference to residents and visitors to Sutton.

This Anti-Social Behaviour will not be tolerated and with this CBO we are sending a clear message that individuals will be held to account.”

Anyone who sees Cranfield in the Roundshaw Estate, on Wallington High Street or around Sutton Rail Station and the Quadrant is encouraged to inform Sutton Police on 101.
