Six fire engines and 40 firefighters called to house fire in Wallington

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a house fire on Dakota Close in Wallington on Tuesday evening.
Part of the staircase from the ground to the first floor and most of the first floor of a mid-terraced house were damaged by fire.

The roof of the building was destroyed by the blaze and part of the roofs of adjacent properties either side were also damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 15 calls to the blaze.

Station Commander Steve Vydelingum, who was at the scene, said: “On arrival there was smoke coming from the windows of the properties and the fire had started to spread to the roofs of two neighbouring houses.“Crews got to work quickly to bring the fire under control and used thermal imaging cameras to check for fire spread.

The Brigade was called at 1808 and the fire was under control by 1901. Fire crews from Wallington, Croydon, Purley, Norbury and Woodside fire stations attended the scene.The cause of the fire is under investigation.
