Spring season of brand new productions at Richmond theatre

Richmond Theatre will host a handful of exciting new productions of well-loved, classic stories in the coming months. From the team behind Running Wild comes a colourful brand new adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s family favourite, The Jungle Book with all new songs, on stage music and brilliant storytelling. A new production of Strangers On A Train based on the world-renowned 1950 novel by Patricia Highsmith and popularized by the classic Alfred Hitchcock film of the same title will also be taking the stage to thrill audiences. Another newly adapted production to grace the Richmond stage is the powerful telling ofCharles Dickens’ Great Expectations starring the Olivier Award-winning actress, Nichola McAuliffe (Surgical SpiritAlan Bennet’s Lady in the Van) as Miss Havisham.

This season is in no short supply of quality drama productions, either. Conor McPherson’s modern classic The Weir is a shadowy tale delving into the dark corners of human lives. Its arrival in Richmond marks the play’s 20th Anniversary year after winning the Olivier Award for Best New Play in 1997. Further, David Haig (Four Weddings and a FuneralThe Thin Blue Line) stars in Pressure, an intense real life thriller about the most important weather forecast in the history of warfare.

Audiences will also have plenty to laugh about this season as Broadway’s award-winning musical comedy, Thoroughly Modern Millie, dances onto Richmond’s stage starring Coronation Street and Emmerdale’s Hayley Tamaddon. Then, everyone’s favourite 1970’s classic TV comedy, Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em, is back starring comedian Joe Pasquale as the loveable, accident-prone Frank Spencer, Sarah Earnshaw as his wife Betty and Susie Blake as his disapproving Mother-in-Law, Mrs Fisher. In addition, Children and parents will laugh with delight as Tiddler and Other Terrific Tales comes to Richmond this spring. Adapted from the bestselling books by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler (The Gruffalo), this show is packed full of live music, puppetry and loveable characters.

This season is also filled with unmissable one night events. Within these are some of the very best in tribute acts including,Someone Like You – The Adele Songbook, Back to BacharachMercury: The Ultimate Queen TributeThe Bee Gees Story, and The Carpenters Story  to name a few. Then, Cricket fans and anyone looking to enjoy a night of fascinating and no-holds-barred entertainment won’t want to miss An Evening with Aggers & Tuffers with Jonathan Agnew and Phil Tufnell.
