Stoppage time header gives Rovers victory over Spelthorne

A stoppage time header by Francois Gabbidon gave the Sutton Common Rovers first team all three points against Spelthorne Sports recently, writes Gary Brigden

A dull first half, which saw Spelthorne go close with an effort that looked to have crossed the line, but was not flagged by the linesman, ended scoreless.

Miguel Anderson fired us ahead three minutes into the second half, before a well worked move saw Spelthorne level on the hour.

Both sides had chances, with Spelthorne hitting the post and having a shot blocked by skipper Richie Monan. At the other end, substitutes Andrew White (just unable to connect with a Matt Robinson cross) and Liam Holden (hitting the outside of the left post), both went close for us, before Gabbidon struck in stoppage time.
