Sutton jeweller explains key pieces of Queen’s jewellery collection

As the Queen celebrate’s her 90th birthday one of the borough’s leading jewellers has exlplained the link between her majesty and jewellery.

In the latest Warrender’s newsletter it explains:

“As head of the British Royal Family Queen Elizabeth II has alwaysenjoyed wearing pieces from an incredible collection of jewellery that includes the finest heirlooms, state gifts and even the Crown Jewels.

“As the Queen celebrates her 90th birthday we take a look at some of the highlights.

“For her 21st birthday the Queen received a Diamond Riviére Necklace consisting of twenty one graduated diamonds linked by smaller baguette and round diamonds. The necklace was later shortened and a matching bracelet made. The suite is still worn by the Queen and it is rumoured that she refers to it as her ‘best diamonds’.

“In 1981 the Queen was bequeathed a Victorian Diamond Star Brooch by Lady Jardine. Star brooches of this form were one of the most popular motifs of the Victorian-era and the Queen was seen wearing hers on a number of occasions during her Diamond Jubilee year.

“Other brooches favoured by the Queen include the Flower Basket Brooch, given to her by her parents to commemorate the birth of Prince Charles and ‘Victoria’s Bow Brooches’, a set of three diamond bow brooches commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1858 and frequently worn by Queen Elizabeth II.

“The pieces of jewellery the Queen is never seen without are, of course, her Diamond Engagement Ring – a 3 carat diamond set in platinum – and her wedding band, crafted from pure Welsh gold from the Clogau St. David’s mine – the same Welsh gold that is contained within every piece of Clogau jewellery.”
