Sutton Sports Village opens new £200,000 indoor tennis dome

On Saturday 26th January, Sutton Sports Village welcomed local residents to the official opening of the new £200,000 indoor tennis dome, as part of a week of free tennis events throughout the community, aimed at boosting participation across all ages.

The introduction of the dome increases the indoor tennis provision at Sutton Sports Village, with four heated, floodlit clay courts now available for use all year round.

Visitors of all ages and abilities were welcomed to try out the new facilities, taking part in a series of coached sessions – including technical drills and matchplay.

Sutton Sports Village is operated by GLL – the UK’s largest public tennis provider through its Better brand.

The introduction of the tennis dome is a continuation of GLL’s commitment to providing affordable, accessible tennis facilities in communities across the country and follows initiatives to boost participation with the LTA. In the days leading up to the launch, Better tennis coaches visited local schools, including Sutton High School, Cheam Park Farm Junior School and Nonsuch School to deliver free tennis sessions for over 750 children.

Simon Sen, Regional Director at GLL said: “We are delighted to welcome visitors to the brand new indoor tennis dome at Sutton Sports Village.

“The launch of the dome puts us in a unique position of being one of the few tennis facilities in the UK that can offer clay court tennis throughout the year.

“As a social enterprise, we exist to provide affordable, accessible sports and leisure facilities for communities across the UK. The new dome allows us to continue this pledge, by encourage more people to get active, in this case, by playing tennis all year round.”
