Unique workshops planned for Little Holland House

A unique workshop is being planned for two days in June at the borough’s Little Holland House

Linocut workshop inspired by the
arts and crafts designs of Frank Dickinson

Sunday 23 June, Friday 28 June, Sunday 30 June
14:00-16:30 – or arrive at 13:30 for walk round the house for inspiration!

Explore the artwork of Frank Dickinson in a creative lino print workshop based in the artists former home. Frank Dickinson, whose work is being celebrated in this year’s Carshalton Artists Open Studio trail, was an artist, designer and craftsman who built Little Holland House in Carshalton Beeches in 1902-4.

This beginner’s introduction to Linocut will encourage you to draw inspiration from the beautiful carvings, patterns and arts and crafts motifs built into the unique decoration of Frank Dickinson’s house and develop your own exciting and vibrant prints.

You will be taught how to use lino cutting tools using 2-part reduction technique using two colours. You will design and print an edition of 3-4 A6 prints during a 2.5 hour workshop.

All cutting tools, inks and paper materials will be provided along with tuition and guidance from experienced artist Jackie Smith. We will be using washable inks and learning hand-printing techniques so that you can continue printing with minimal equipment at home.

This workshop is suitable for beginners or those with some experience of lino printing. Bring sketchbooks and ideas with you and do visit and explore Frank Dickinson’s house before the workshop for additional ideas.

Workshop will be run in a small group with max of 6 people (aged 16+). Bring along an apron or wear old clothing; tea and coffee will be provided.
