Wallington Fire Station open day attracts more than 1,500 people

Wallington Green watch ran an excellent open day yesterday that was attended by in excess of 1500 people .

Fire Investigation’s Watch Manager Mick Boyle, Rosco and Murphy attended and gave a sniffer dog demonstration which included finding a tiny drip of petrol in the station yard. This captivated the audience. Sniffer dogs Roscoe and Murphy were on their best behaviour when greeting the public, who all fell in love with them.

The Fire Cadets attended. Without their help it would have been almost impossible to run the open day with such a high number of attendees.
Croydon Green Watch’s FRU crew attended and demonstrated their equipment throughout the open day.

Safer Neighbourhood police officers attended and gave advice to local residents about keeping their properties and possessions safe.

Fire safety advice and the offer of a HFSV was given to all.
Wallington’s crew showed the children around the fire appliance where there were plenty of photo opportunities to have their picture taken whilst on the appliance and dressed in firegear.

Representatives from Children’s trust attended, who bought Peppa Pig with them, she was a big hit with the children and was on her best behaviour!!!

final-proof-1Other activities included a food stall, raffle (where prizes were kindly donated by local businesses), ice cream van, face painting, helium balloon stall and a sponge throwing stall.

Playmobil provided play tables and toys so that our younger guests could act out firefighting scenarios.

Everyone’s efforts were rewarded by raising £987 for our two chosen charities. These were:

The Children’s Trust in Tadworth, who strive to “give children with brain injuries the opportunity to live the best life possible” and the Firefighter’s charity.
