Age UK Sutton hosts General Election hustings event

Age UK Sutton is to host a General Election hustings on Friday 26 May at 10.00 AM at St. Patrick’s Church in Wallington to give older people, their family and friends the opportunity to ask questions and address the General Election candidates standing in the Carshalton & Wallington constituency.

Candidates for Carshalton & Wallington including Tom Brake (Liberal Democrat), Emina Ibrahim (Labour), Shasha Khan (Green Party), Nick Mattey (Independent) and Matthew J Maxwell Scott (Conservative) will participate in an open debate.

What is a Hustings event?

A hustings is a meeting at which candidates standing at election address potential voters. Hustings are organised by groups, such as local Age UKs, so that voters can ask candidates about issues that are important to them.

Why should I attend the Age UK Sutton hustings?

This is an exciting opportunity for you to engage with your Carshalton & Wallington candidates, ask them questions and discuss issues affecting later life that matter to you, your older friends and relatives. You will also be able hold any of the candidates’ pledges or comments at hustings to account, if they are elected as your MP.

Nicola Upton, CEO of Age UK Sutton said:

“We are very proud to organise this hustings, and delighted that a majority of the Carshalton & Wallington candidates have agreed to take part.

We are here to serve and support Sutton’s older people. A big part of that is ensuring older people have their voices heard and needs met, and we hope this hustings will give them the opportunity to do just that.

We look forward to a fair and balanced debate that addresses the issues raised by guests and to hear what candidates have to say about making Sutton a place where older people can live their later life with dignity.”
