MP calls for greater awareness of 3Rs following rise of acid attacks

Following the recent rise in acid attacks in the U.K, Tom Brake MP is calling for greater awareness and education surrounding what to do in the event of an attack and for everyone to know their 3 Rs – Report, Remove, Rinse.

The National Chief Police Council reported that there have been 408 reported acid attacks in the U.K. in the six months to April of 2017.

Tom Brake MP said:

“We have all been horrified by the recent rise in acid attacks. It’s really crucial that residents know how to respond in the event of an acid attack as a quick response by a victim or bystander can substantially reduce the level of injury and improve the chances of recovery for a victim. These barbaric acts have no place in our society. I hope that local residents and the local community will help me raise awareness on this important issue.”

Three essential steps have been released by the NHS: Report, Remove, Rinse.

Report by dialing 999. Remove contaminated clothing carefully. Rinse immediately in running water. For more detailed information visit: www.nhs.uk/acidburns
