MP lends supporty to “Secret Life of Us” campaign

MP Tom Brake is giving his support to the ‘Secret Life of Us’ campaign, to make a difference in the lives of disabled children in Carshalton and Wallington and all over the country.

The campaign, Secret Life of Us, is responding to an alarming survey which revealed that 97% of parents with a disabled child say the public does not understand the challenges they face in their everyday lives.

Responding to these statistics and the launch of the campaign, Tom Brake said:

“I am pleased to add my support to the Disabled Children’s Partnership campaign, Secret Life of Us, to shine a light and share the stories, of disabled children and their families in Carshalton and Wallington and across the country.

“It is extremely concerning that 97% of parents with a disabled child say the public does not understand the challenges they face. By increasing awareness and support for the Secret Life of Us campaign, a real difference can be made to the lives of disabled children. The new campaign will show the day-to-day lives of disabled children and their families. Allowing us to see the similarities they share with everyone, as well as the struggles they face on a daily basis.

“It is my hope that this campaign will open the public’s eyes and allow local residents who are disabled or have a disabled loved one to feel more welcome in our community. Whatever we can do to help these families feel accepted and understood is worthwhile.”
