Two years after a charity cricket tournament raised over £34,000, Cricket Balls to Cancer is set to return to Send this summer.

The event was first organised in 2017 by Jessica Bryan in memory of her husband Charlie Young, who sadly died of testicular cancer at the age of just 34. An avid cricket fan, Charlie conceived the event before he died with the aim of putting on a great family day out with food, drink, fundraising and of course a spot of cricket in the sunshine.

The event will raise funds for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which supports the work of The Royal Marsden in Sutton where Charlie was treated for over three years, and Royal Trinity Hospice in London where he died in May 2016.

This year’s event will again be held at Sendholme Cricket Club, Send on Saturday 18 May and is open to all, not just those who knew Charlie. It promises to be a great day out with family and friends centred around a private cricket pitch in the beautiful Surrey countryside.

The cricket tournament will begin at 11am as teams of six compete for the Forever Young trophy. There will be family-friendly fun and games, face painting and a bouncy castle as well as food and a bar throughout the day and a raffle and silent auction.

Organiser Jessica Bryan said: “Charlie loved cricket, so we could think of no better way of raising awareness and money than this special six-a-side tournament.

“Cricket Balls to Cancer is set to be a great family day out in the sunshine and we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone along and raising funds for two charities that do fantastic work and helped to support Charlie when it mattered the most.”
