There are now 300 nursing vacancies in Epsom and St Helier hospitals.
The Chief Executive of the hospitals, Daniel Elkeles, told Sutton Council’s Scrutiny Committee at the beginning of February that the shortage is partly due to Brexit.
Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake said:
“The toll that Brexit is taking on hospital staffing is unacceptable. St Helier has been my top priority for over 25 years. ”

There will be even more staff shortages when staff cannot park their car to get to work when the Controlled Parking Zone comes int effect. The Royal college of nursing is most concerned about the planned parking strategy, they advised me that they are already struggling to recruit people in this borough due to poor transport links. Staff were recently offered a £500 golden hello for taking a job at st Helier. The person I am dealing with said he would be extremely surprised if the chief executive of the hospital did not know of these parking plans. David elkeles was contacted and declined to get involved in the council’s business even though he was advised that staff have advised me they will leave if they cannot park anywhere.
St. Helier treated my son less than a dog. Brakes smug face tells it all. Uses the hospital periodically as bandwagon to suggest how good he is. No comment from him over children in borough let down and hurt by Sutton. Build a new hospital, one that with people that care. Elkes resign.
