Earlier this month, Tom Brake MP attended the National Autistic Society’s first ever Understanding Autism session in Parliament. During the session, Tom received information on autism, guidance on how to create autism-friendly surgeries, and tips on how to support autistic residents in Carshalton and Wallington.
Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake said:
“I was delighted to attend the Understanding Autism session and am grateful to the National Autistic Society for organising it. Without the right support or understanding, people with autism can miss out on education, struggle to find work and become extremely isolated.
“We need to be more understanding of the challenges people with autism face and I am confident that I will be able to apply the strategies I learned and effectively support local residents who are affected by this lifelong disability.”

The National Autistic Society is the UK’s leading charity for autistic people. There are approximately 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK, and the charity have been campaigning for autistic people’s rights and providing support and advice to autistic people and their families.
