MP visits borough pilot winter homeless shelter

Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake visited Sutton Community Works’ pilot winter homeless shelter to learn about the 31-day pilot exploring hidden homelessness in the borough.

The Sutton charity has trained over 100 volunteers, partnered with several churches, received support from housing justice and funding from the Greater London Authority to respond to hidden homelessness in the area. The pilot includes several Church-based shelters, which operate by referral, to offer food, accommodation and support to any and all homeless individuals that are willing to participate and engage with the volunteers.

Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake said: “Sutton Community Works is an admirable charity that helps churches to partake in various local projects to help their community. Their winter shelter pilot is a great way to support the homeless population in Sutton and better understand their challenges and ways in which the community at large can assist them. “It is very important that we find ways to help Carshalton and Wallington residents who have fallen into hard times, especially during the winter season. Sutton Community Works is making great strides in tackling hidden homelessness in the area to help those that need it most.”
