Sutton Common Rovers lose to Colliers Wood Utd

football-3A massive deflection 12 minutes from time condemned the 10 man first team to defeat against Colliers Wood on Monday, writes Gary Brigden

The fiery encounter saw both managers sent to the stand, SCR’s Francois Gabbidon dismissed on 30 minutes, with Wood’s Sanchez Benali following him for the early bath late on in the match.

Add to that half time and full time altercations between the two sides, and it was not a match for the feint hearted.

At times football did break out, but these moments were few and far between and the whole game felt like it was played on a knife edge for the majority of the time.

For the record, Wood took the lead on 13 minutes, when a Benali shot somehow found it’s way beyond Ollie Ellaway, and SCR equalised on 23 minutes, when a soft Richard Monan shot deceived Wood keeper Andrew Osei on it’s way into the net.

Both sides missed chances, before a deflected Theo Woodhouse shot left substitute keeper Leigh Bowden stranded.
